Maybe some "World Music" would hip you to new Phrasings and Polyrhythms, etc. There are so many cool options there, that I'll let everyone else make suggestions as to what my be interesting.
They both use a lot of larger Interval ideas. Inspiring stuff. I also really like Scott Henderson's playing. Maybe studying some of their work? Splatt David Torn and Steve Kimock both spring immediately to mind.
But, there are many just here on TGP. There's just so much great work to explore, out there! Man, it's humbling. But , it sure is fun! Hope this helps some. Have both books. I like them more as inspiration than as something to really work through Will they expand your playing greatly? Maybe not. BTW the writing is really good.
I love all his little jokes and lighthearted quips. Yeah, I only know him from the youtube stuff, but I'm always struck by how self-effacing he is. Refreshing for a guy with such monstrous technical skills. Anyone else in his league if there is anyone , would almost certainly be full of themselves.
He seems like a natural born teacher. Good stuff, I tend to see scales too much as dots on the neck aka "Guitar Hero. Similarly, Govan talks here about internalizing how any note sounds in relation to the root note of a C major scale.
The CD that comes with the book is pretty much Guthrie Govan showing off for a few hours, but was needed to hear reference to what you are reading about.

But what makes him so unique is his complete understanding of other styles of music and how he incorporates all those styles into his playing. This one is Guthrie at his core. Just wanted to start this thread about Guthrie, one of the greatest guitarists of our time! He is an amazing composer and his technique is incredible.

Many of these are penned by accomplished guitarists and their name alone is supposed to push the credibility of the product. Guthrie Govan not only knows how to play the guitar, not only does he know his music theory, but he knows how to crreative this information in an understandable way. Jun 18, 6. The second book is a very very complete achive about techniques, you have: There were actually quite a few things in this book that i never tried, and it was very fun going through the exercises Guthrie presents.

After speaking with Guthrie a couple years ago, he seemed to be a lot prouder of the first book than the second. Similarly, on basic theory, I think there are other books with clearer explanations than Govan has.
